  • Conclusion

Placing implants well as a treatment plan is a necessary process for long-term implant success. To place implants well is to place them in their ideal three-dimensional position. Implants must be placed in adequate position, angulation, and depth. In particular, depth control is a critical element in determining the emergence profile and securing the stability of crestal bone. The installation depth is largely impacted by the choice of implant system. Internal rigid bone-level implant systems will cause complications if placed shallowly, and therefore should be placed deep. Modern digitally guided surgeries may be the most optimal tool to place implants in the planned position, angulation, and depth. However, since they are based on CT images, it may be difficult to determine the appropriate installation depth before the surgery. This lecture will discuss the rationale and methods for adjusting the final implant depth in bone-level implant systems.
